ESPN's Look at Recent Developments in Recruiting
ESPN has an article up about recent developments in recruiting and UNC makes one of the top 10. The bit on the Heels mentions an early belief that Roy was slipping in recruiting until to scoop up Zeller and a host of top players for the 2009 class. Here's the article.
ESPN Recruiting Class Rankings
ESPN has ranked UNC's 2008 recruiting class at #7 - the class includes Tyler Zeller, Larry Drew, Ed Davis, and, now, Justin Watts. Here are the rankings and here's ESPN's UNC recruiting page.
Danny Green NBA Update
The Raleigh News and Observer is reporting that Danny Green has been invited to the NBA Pre-Draft camp, but hasn't received the paperwork yet. Green's father also said that unless Green is going in the first round he will return to UNC. According to everything I've seen unless something magical happens for Green in the camp and subsequent workouts, it looks like Green will be back with the 2008-9 Heels.

Updated Scout 100 Rankings
Scout.com has come out with their latest rankings for the 2009 class. Skinny dude John Henson and UNC verbal has moved up to be the #4 overall ranked player and #1 rated power forward. Other UNC verbal rankings include Dexter Strickland at #12 and the Wear twins at #52 and #53.
Justin Watts Signs with UNC
Durham wing-guard Justin Watts has signed with UNC for the entering class of 2008. Here's Watts' profile. Watts is rated a three-star player who seems to be an athlete over skill. This offer and signing clearly is a signal that Roy thinks either Lawson or Ellington, or both, are staying in the NBA Draft - if not also Green. Watts joins PG Larry Drew and PFs Larry Drew and Tyler Zeller.
We hope that Watts turns out like David Noel who came in at the last minute signee from Durham. If Watts comes close to Noel's play it will be terrific.

2008 Draft Status for UNC
With a glance around the gaggle of mock drafts out there for the 2008 NBA Draft, it appears most have Lawson and Ellington in the late 1st round or early 2nd round. Surprisingly, just a couple of weeks ago most had Ellington in the mid-2nd round, so he must be doing something right. Meanwhile, Green is nowhere to be found - an indication to come back to the Hill.
Article on a Busy Coach K
Here's an ESPN article on how busy Coach K is this summer - and we hope that translates into a weaker Duke team next year.

Alex Stepheson to Transfer
According to UNC, Alex Stepheson is going to transfer due to ongoing family illnesses in California. He took time off during last season to be back with the family. Although Stepheson started to play much better towards the end of last season, he was looking at being the 5th forward this year with Zeller and Davis coming in. Here's a story on it.

Mike Copeland to Have Surgery
Forward Mike Copeland is scheduled to have surgery after tearing his ACL in a pickup game. Copeland will likely be out for 6 to 8 months. Bad news for Copeland but not really for UNC as next year's team includes forwards Hansbrough, Thompson, Stepheson, and freshmen Zeller and Davis.

Obama Didn't Win Roy's Endorsement
Even though Obama played ball with UNC, Roy didn't endorse Obama after or during the game. Apparently, that didn't matter for Obama as he easily won North Carolina's Democratic Primary.
UNC Makes the Grade
The NCAA Academic Progress Reports (APRs) came out today and UNC has cleared all hurdles. The APR takes into account eligibility, retention, and graduation for each DI sport; and each sport needs to meet a 925 threshold. UNC's main men's sports including football (947), basketball (995), and baseball (985). NC State will lose one scholarship in wrestling for missing the threshold.
Roy On Recruiting Trail
Roy, as usual, is on the recruiting trail for wing guard/forwards. The latest report is that Roy was in Baltimore checking out Roscoe Smith a 6-7 sophomore wing forward. Again, Roy's trying to fill up on wing guard/forwards after only getting point guards and power forwards thus far.

Recruiting Update
With nothing exciting going on in the world of UNC - save for waiting to figure out if Lawson, Ellington, and Green - will return, we don't have a ton to write on. Yet, the latest info on UNC recruiting for the 2009 class is that Roy is focusing only on wing-guards. This makes sense as 3 power forwards (John Henson, David and Travis Wear) and 1 point guard (Dexter Strickland) have signed, and we still don't know about Ellington and Green.
Roy is currently focusing on four players - Nolan Denis, Xavier Henry, Noel Johnson, and Leslie McDonald. Hopefully, at least one of them will choose UNC and add to a lineup of mostly point guards and power forwards.
